The Scarlet Tassel Adds Value with Services Beyond the Store
When Deirdre and I established our business, we shared a vision of what we wanted The Scarlet Tassel to known for, and topping that list
was excellent customer service. As we've grown into our store and our brand, we've developed a distinct retail personality
and a strong presence in the local community. Customer service is no longer limited to inside the store.

Service, Solutions and Satisfaction
Sandy Springs is one of Atlanta's most desirable neighborhoods, and its residents live within close proximity to many of
Atlanta's shopping destinations. But in the last few years, Sandy Springs has sprouted a few shopping destinations
of its own, including a charming boutique known as The Scarlet Tassel. A home décor and gift store focusing on
decorative accessories for all areas of the home, The Scarlet Tassel has after only three years carved out its own niche, with a
distinctive product offering and an inspirational shopping environment.

At The Scarlet Tassel, It's All About Home
Just two years after its launch in 2003, Atlanta's gift, home décor and accent furniture store, The Scarlet Tassel, was named
one of the country's 50 Retail Stars by Home Accents Today. Owners Shelly Dozier-McKee and Deirdre Staab were naturally
thrilled but didn't see it as an "overnight success." Before opening their doors in up-and-coming suburb
Sandy Springs, the pair spent well over a year meeting with focus groups, working with a local small-business development center and
scouting out possible locations for their dream store.

Holiday Wrappings — The holidays really are the most wonderful time of the year for home-related merchants. Two successful retailers explain why.
The intense focus on home and hearth during the fourth quarter is a tremendous catalyst for home furnishings sales Whether it's
the purchase of a new dining room set around which the family will gather or a bevy of smaller items for holiday decorating, entertaining
and gift giving, the consumer is ready to buy what home furnishings stores have to offer.

Deirdre Staab and Shelly Dozier-McKee from The Scarlet Tassel, a home accessories and interior design store, for
help. If your bookshelves are crammed with a jumbled assortment of odds and ends, look bare and uninspired

Visual Delights — Great Retail Displays
Typically when we talk about visual merchandising and great displays we use images from vendors' showrooms, but this time I've pulled
pictures from retailers across the country.
Don't get me wrong — I've seen some great vendor displays this year and we've shared many of them in the daily issues we publish in
High Point and Atlanta. They provide inspiration for ideas you can create in your stores, but sometimes I think they might be a
bit daunting because they are picture-perfect.

Adventures in Retailing: Four Gamble For Success
Retailers are daring people. Some may say crazy, and indeed, some retailers are that too, but having the desire, drive,
persistence and creativity to open a retail store takes a lot of chutzpah in the best of times, let alone in the midst of the up and down
economy the United States has experienced since Sept. 11. While some markets have been relatively unaffected by the challenges
of the last few years, many entrepreneurs have suffered.
The entrepreneurial spirit, however, is alive and well in Colorado, California, Georgia and Pennsylvania as proven by these retailers.
